The Brandenburg Gate

The Brandenburg Gate separates what used to be East Berlin and West
Berlin. The Wall is pretty much removed. The wall was established
after WWII when East Germany was under Russian rule while Western
Germany was guided by the United States and Britain. The wall was
intact until 1989 when Germany was allowed to form one country. Many
Germans had not seen relatives for over 30 years. Many tried to escape
East Germany and many were arrested or killed. This picture was taken
from the east side.
