Hamelin

We stopped in Hamelin on our way to Hamburg. Hamelin is famous for the
Goethe fairy tale about the Pied Piper of Hamelin. according to the
story the Pied Piper was under contract to get rid of the mice and
rats of Hamelin. With his musical pipe he urged all the rats and mice
to follow him out of town. He came back to collect his pay when the
townspeople refused to pay. So on the next Sunday when all the adults
were gone to Church the Pied Piper used his pipes to urge all the
children to leave town with him never to return. The picture is a
statue in town of the Pied Piper. Hamelin is a lovely town with
equisite buildings, much like a fairy tale town. All roofs for the
last 50 miles have been tile.
